YouTube Shorts Paid Me $3,200 in 4 Months. Hereβs What the Graph Actually Looks Like.
The peak. The drop. The normalization. All of it β with screenshots.

I want to show you something most creators won't.
Not just the good months.
The drop after them too.
This channel has been running for 4 months now.
No recycled content from old channels.
No head start.
Just a fresh channel, one niche, and a commitment to document everything honestly.
Total earned so far: $3,200.
Here's exactly how that broke down β month by month.
I put together a full step-by-step guide on how I built this channel from scratch. You can check it here.
The Numbers First (So We're Clear)
Month 1: $0
Month 2: $420
Month 3: $1,850
Month 4: $930
Total: $3,200
If you only look at Month 3, it looks like a success story.
If you only look at Month 4, it looks like a failure.
Neither reading is accurate.
Month 1 β The Work Nobody Screenshots
The channel went live in Month 1.
I uploaded every day.
$0 earned β because the channel wasn't monetized yet. YouTube requires 500 subscribers and 3,000 watch hours before you unlock basic monetization on Shorts.
I hit that threshold on Day 24.
Most people expect income before they've even qualified for it. That's the first way beginners set themselves up to quit.
Month 2 β First Real Money ($420)
Month 2 was the first monetized month.
$420 from Shorts alone.
Views were around 4.2 million that month. RPM was sitting at roughly $0.10 β which is on the lower end but normal for a new channel still being tested by the algorithm.
The exciting part wasn't the number itself.
It was proof that the model worked.
Once you see your first dollar from Shorts, the whole thing stops being theoretical. That shift in your head matters more than the amount.
Month 3 β The Phase Everyone Screenshots ($1,850)
This is where the algorithm pushed hard.
Views jumped to around 18 million that month.
A few Shorts got picked up by the distribution system and pushed to wider audiences β not viral exactly, but sustained reach. That's the difference between a spike and a strong month.
$1,850 in a single month from one Shorts channel.
This is the screenshot people post online. This is where most income reports end.
Mine doesn't.
Month 4 β The Drop Nobody Talks About ($930)
Month 4 views dropped to around 9 million.
Earnings dropped to $930.
I didn't change anything.
Same niche. Same upload frequency. Same format that worked in Month 3.
The algorithm simply finished its heavy testing phase and settled into a baseline.
This is what I call normalization β and it happens to every real Shorts channel. The ones you see quitting in Month 4 aren't failing. They're panicking about something completely normal.
I didn't touch a single thing.
I kept uploading.
What $3,200 in 4 Months Actually Means
It's not life-changing money.
But that's not the point of Month 4.
The point is that I now know:
- What a strong month looks like on this channel
- What an average month looks like
- Which Short formats survive the quiet periods
- What my baseline RPM is
- How long the algorithm's honeymoon phase lasts
That information is worth more than the $3,200.
It's the blueprint I'll use to build a second channel β and a third β with far less guessing.
The One Thing I'd Tell Anyone Starting Shorts
Don't treat Month 3 like your new normal.
And don't treat Month 4 like a failure.
Both are part of the same cycle. Every channel I've studied β including the ones making $5,000β$10,000/month β went through the exact same pattern before they stabilized.
The only creators who make real money long-term are the ones who stayed calm when the graph stopped going up.
That's the whole game.
I'll be sharing Month 5 numbers when they're in.

No hype. No edited-out months.
Just the full story.
