Welcome to Cyber Briefing, your daily source for all things cybersecurity. We bring you the latest advisories, alerts, incidents, and news every weekday.
Adversaries are getting craftier about hiding in plain sight. A new remote access trojan, CikaBika Bot, spreads through phishing and uses Discord for command-and-control, giving attackers reconnaissance, remote execution and data theft on infected machines. ReversingLabs also mapped a Midnight Blizzard espionage campaign that used Anthropic's Claude to rebuild implants after security tools flagged them. RL traced five rebuilt PowerShell stagers to infrastructure aimed at government and defense targets in Ukraine and Europe, and found indicators missing from earlier vendor reports.
Insider and data-exposure risks round out the picture. The UK Legal Aid Agency revealed that its April 2025 breach exposed about 250,000 records going back to 1978, including probation data. In the US, an OpenAI engineer was charged with planting a listening device in an executive conference room. Elsewhere, NordVPN is moving toward local AI-driven antivirus that protects data at rest, in use and in transit, and YouTube is rolling out "Made with AI" labels for music.

⚡THREAT LANDSCAPE
CikaBika Bot RAT Uses Discord for C&C
A new remote access trojan called CikaBika Bot is being distributed through phishing campaigns and uses Discord for command-and-control communications. The malware provides attackers with reconnaissance capabilities, remote command execution, and the ability to steal data from infected systems. Organizations should strengthen email security controls and monitor for suspicious Discord traffic on their networks. Read More
RL Maps Midnight Blizzard Campaign Using AI Evasion
ReversingLabs researchers mapped a Midnight Blizzard espionage campaign that used Anthropic's Claude AI to rebuild malware implants after security tools flagged them. Starting from two malware samples disclosed by Anthropic in September 2026, RL traced five rebuilt versions of a PowerShell stager and connected them to staging servers, lure files, and phishing infrastructure targeting government and defense organizations in Ukraine and Europe. The analysis revealed critical threat indicators absent from both Anthropic's and Microsoft's public reports, demonstrating how behavioral intelligence and historical telemetry can expose broader attack patterns even when adversaries use AI to evade detection. 🚨INCIDENTS & REAL-WORLD IMPACT
UK Legal Aid Agency breach exposes 250K records from 1978
The UK Legal Aid Agency disclosed that a 2025 breach was far worse than initially reported, with attackers stealing approximately 250,000 records dating back to 1978, including sensitive personal and financial information from legal aid applicants and probation service data. The April 2025 intrusion also compromised HM Prison and Probation Service records from 2010–2017, containing names, birthdates, and case details of supervised offenders. Affected individuals should monitor for identity theft and fraud, as the stolen data includes National Insurance numbers, addresses, financial details, and information about criminal proceedings. 🔓 EXECUTIVE RISK & CYBERNOMICS
NordVPN CTO on NGAV and AI-era security
NordVPN has launched a next-generation antivirus (NGAV) product designed to address modern threats like phishing, scams, and identity theft that have largely replaced traditional file-based malware. The company is developing small, locally-run AI models for threat detection and exploring protections for AI agents operating on user devices. NordVPN CTO Marijus Briedis emphasized that future security solutions should run invisibly in the background, use local processing where possible, and protect data across all three states: at rest, in use, and in transfer. Saudi OpenAI engineer charged with planting spy device
A 35-year-old Saudi engineer employed by OpenAI has been charged with planting a surveillance device in an executive conference room at the company's San Francisco office. Abdulrahman Alfozan allegedly installed the bug to secretly record conversations in the room. Organizations should review physical security protocols for sensitive meeting spaces and conduct regular sweeps for unauthorized surveillance equipment. Read More

YouTube adds AI-generated music labels
YouTube is introducing a 'Made with AI' label for music tracks that are altered or fully generated using artificial intelligence, similar to its existing video labeling system. The label applies to content where AI tools create compositions and vocals, and music partners must disclose AI use when uploading songs. YouTube may use other detection signals to identify AI-generated music if creators fail to disclose, with the labeling system rolling out starting today. Read More
