Recently, I cleared the Google Cloud Professional Cloud Security Engineer (PCSE) exam.
In this post, I want to share how I prepared for it, the resources I used, and a few tips that might help if you're planning to take this exam.
But before we get into preparation, here are a few quick things about the PCSE exam.
A Few Things About the PCSE Exam
Difficulty
The Professional Cloud Security Engineer certification is one of the toughest exams in the Google Cloud ecosystem.
The Professional Cloud Security Engineer certification is one of the toughest exams in the Google Cloud ecosystem.
It's mostly scenario-based, focusing on how services work together to secure real architectures rather than merely define them.
Opportunity
Cloud security is a fast-growing field. This certification can open doors to roles like Cloud Security Engineer, DevSecOps Engineer, and Security Architect.
And if you enjoy understanding systems and thinking about how they can be secured, preparing for this exam can actually be pretty fun.
Resources I Used
For preparation, I mainly relied on official learning resources, hands-on labs, and a few helpful notes from the community.
One tool that helped me a lot during preparation was Google NotebookLM.
I uploaded the official exam guide PDFs and used them to:
- ask questions about topics
- clarify concepts
- explore deeper explanations
It felt like having a personal study assistant built around the exam guide.
Official Google Learning Path
For structured learning, I followed the official learning path on Google Cloud Skills Boost.
Resources:
https://www.skills.google/paths/15/course_templates/397
https://www.skills.google/paths/15
These resources cover the core security topics required for the certification and include hands-on labs.
Helpful Notes From the Web
I also referred to some helpful notes created by others in the community.
https://rishabkumar.com/notes/gcp-cloud-security
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nik97BgPUuFPx1Os9zEGu2fLnmsXbVfH/view
These were useful for quick revision and summaries, but cross-check with the latest official exam guide.
Labs (Very Important)
One of the most important parts of my preparation was completing all the labs mentioned in the learning path.
The labs allow you to actually use the services inside Google Cloud instead of just reading about them, which makes the concepts much easier to understand.
Practice Tests
For practice, I used a Udemy GCP Security practice exam.
Unfortunately, I'm not able to provide the link because it currently shows that the course is no longer available.
The question pattern in those tests was different from the actual exam, but they were still helpful for:
- clearing concepts
- getting comfortable with scenario-based questions
Official Sample Questions
I also tried the official sample questions provided by Google.
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfSuKEE8cUQWj9sfak7QG9hpaljBC89Y22KoWMQFgoECZjzUg/viewform
These give a good idea of how the questions are structured in the real exam.
Tips If You're Preparing for PCSE
- Complete the labs — they are extremely important
- Use tools like NotebookLM to ask questions and explore topics
- Don't just memorise services — understand why they are used
- The official Google Cloud resources are usually enough if studied carefully
- Stay curious and experiment with the services while learning
Final Thoughts
The Professional Cloud Security Engineer certification is challenging, but it's a great way to deepen your understanding of cloud security on Google Cloud.
