The Dubious Amount of Pen Test Reporting Tools

When it comes to reporting tools for Pen Testing there is no shortage. We will dig into some and see how each one differs. Keep in mind I will only be going through free options in this post!

1. Pentest.ws — This one has been around for a while and has evolved through out the years. With two available options which are the Hobbyist tier and Pro tier. Both don't miss any key or important features while Pro may offer more for a more professional setting the Hobbyist tier will still do its job if you are using it for labs and are still learning the ropes of Pen testing!
2. Pwndoc — Pwndoc is more open sourced and works entirely different than pentest.ws would. With Pwndoc you are running a docker container and hosting it locally. For some, this might suit you better but this one does require few extra skills to learn and it is more technical.
3. WriteHat — WriteHat comes from BlackLanternSecurity which is a security company. This one is another repo from github and it is another reporting tool that you will have to host on your machine.
4. Peng-Ninja — I am going to be honest with everyone. This is one I haven't actually tried on my own but I thought I might as well give it a mention. This one is another open sourced reporting tool with a similar premises as Pentest.ws but a bit more simpler. With that being said however, it doesn't fall short on features provided! Off the bat from landing on the page, you see three options their github repo, import button, and a new project button. From within the new projects, you may select from the 44+ pre-created templates and include your findings into your reports.
