A useful update from Microsoft. A new report has been released in the SharePoint admin center called "Site permissions for users." It allows admins to see every SharePoint and OneDrive site a user can access, along with the reason for that access, including:

  • Direct permissions
  • Group membership
  • Full site access versus specific file or folder access

Why this matters:

  • Quickly identify users with excessive permissions
  • Validate access during offboarding or role changes
  • Establish a strong foundation for Copilot readiness and improved data security

The report provides a point-in-time snapshot, is exportable, and can be found under Data Access Governance in the SharePoint admin center. A small feature with a meaningful impact on governance.
