For decades, consumers have expected monitors to do one thing: display content. They have never expected a monitor to install software onto their computer, let alone serve advertisements for third-party applications. Yet that is precisely the controversy that unfolded in July 2026 when users discovered that certain LG monitors were silently triggering software installations on Windows 11 systems, resulting in recurring pop-up advertisements promoting McAfee antivirus.
The backlash was swift.
