We'll analyze the phishing email, investigate suspicious artifacts, and walk through the steps used to uncover malicious activity. Scenario Put your phishing analysis skills to the test by triaging and collecting information about a recent phishing campaign. To download our artifact package locally, we click the "Download File" button located at the bottom-right section of the challenge landing page.

Because the artifact package contains genuine malicious email samples, the platform distributes it safely compressed inside a password-protected zip folder to mitigate accidental execution. We open our local file explorer and navigate to our download directory.

When launching an extraction utility on the folder, our operating system will prompt us for the encryption string. We input the challenge-provided password btlo to successfully retrieve the uncompressed .eml format document.

With the standalone mail file safely extracted, we right- click the document and choose to open it using the Thunderbird client.

As a localized integrity control measure, the mail platform displays a configuration prompt requesting confirmation. We again input the standardized password string btlo and select "OK"


Once inside the mail program, to bypass masked layouts and preview the hidden structural components exactly as they were engineered, we navigate to the top utility menu and modify our display parameters by choosing More > Message Body As > Original HTML.
