In This World
A Poem

By Paul Fingl
Do not rush, ever What are you running towards, running from, Cowboy?
The tides have turned, voices and the picking of guitar strings fill the air
For souls like ours, has it ever been easy to find a place in this world?
Truth is, we don't quite fit and so we must create our own spaces instead
To think big, yet not fall into ego's trappings To shape a new world yet not become enamoured with power To give love, yet not be bitter when it isn't returned Such will be our way
How easy it is to get distracted, to lose ourselves in a sea of petty meaninglessness
How easy to throw this life away
And how I sometimes wish to shut my heart again not to feel it sting shatter break
Now, more than ever I cannot lose myself I've had my share of isolation It's time to be in the world at all danger of being broken
I've collected and rearranged my pieces before I'll do it again if needed
Each time, it's a richer image that emerges
