In this new age, technology continues to shape the world, driven by innovations in areas such as artificial intelligence, large language models (LLMs), data, and other emerging technologies. If you are passionate about technology, curious about how things work, and enjoy exploring different domains, you can embrace the mindset of a hacker.
Before we understand who a hacker is, let's first understand what hacking is or what the meaning of HACKING is.
If you try to find it on your own, 90% of the Internet's meaning of "hacking" is very misleading. But how can I say that? Because I have been learning, reading, and working in this domain for 3 years. But I won't confuse you. The overall meaning of HACKING is "Achieving a result in an unexpected or unconventional way".
You may not agree with me with the above-mentioned thought. I know because your mind is blind with fictional movies, web series, and short films. Remember, movies/web series are only for entertainment purposes. They don't give you knowledge. They don't show actual hacking because actual hacking is boring for a general audience. You can watch this video link:

Different meanings according to background
Wikipedia definition: Wikipedia uses "hacking" much more broadly. It sources knowledge from the Internet that is misleading. It covers things such as: getting unauthorized access to software, hardware, and networks; modification of systems.
Simply defining hacking as "getting unauthorized access" can be misleading.

Math: Let's look at an example. When I was in 10th grade, I solved many math problems using the methods my teacher had taught me. Some questions could be solved in five or six lines, while others took me ten to fifteen lines.
But I thought, "If I can get the exact answer and it's correct, why not try my own method or technique?" So, I experimented with different approaches and eventually developed my own methodology for arriving at the correct answer.
It's also HACKING because the meaning of HACKING is "Achieving a result in an unexpected or unconventional way." I HACKED the math.

YouTube: If you go to YouTube and search "Top 10 life hacks", then you will see a lot of videos showing the same thing that I said previously: 'Achieving a result in an unexpected or unconventional way'. Even some videos are very creative. These videos don't teach you how to hack computers or mobile devices. But they teach you how to achieve a goal in a different way.

One article perspective: I was exploring a new concept and trying to find something interesting, but suddenly found it.
I found an article titled "Are You A Hacker?" that is interesting because it approaches a hacker as more than the stereotypical: "person sitting in a dark room breaking into computers."
I added the main key areas and examples from the "Are You A Hacker" article.
Let's consider an example: if a hacker is attempting to gain access to a computer, let's say a Windows 7 machine, they use their skills to identify open ports on the network through which the machine is operating. This skill is part of computer networking. By accessing these open ports, the hacker can then explore the services that are running on them.
The next step involves identifying vulnerabilities or weak points within the Windows 7 system. Hackers use a range of skills, including assembly language programming, computer forensics, and a thorough understanding of the services running on the computer, to find these vulnerabilities. Additionally, they utilize Linux OS skills and open-source tools during the process. For instance, if they discover that the SMB port is active on the computer, they may exploit a vulnerability like MS017.
Here's where the Metasploit framework comes into play. It allows the hacker to establish a reverse TCP connection to the Windows 7 machine using a payload within the framework. This connection leverages the SMB vulnerability (MS017) to gain access to the computer.
The individual in the example above is simply utilizing their computer knowledge and expertise to explore the technology. If you possess similar skills and a keen interest in computers, you too can be considered a hacker.
The actual object of this article (Are You A Hacker) is to give you an understanding. In reality, a hacker is someone who has a deep passion for exploring technology in depth. Maybe non-technical people don't understand the above example.

Computer HACKING: Let's see an example. I want to connect to a Windows computer via RDP with a password. That is a simple approach to achieving access to the system. Now, consider that I am a hacker and I don't have the password, but eventually, I want to access the Windows computer. But how can I do this? Okay, I research on the internet and find crazy stuff. I can try different combinations of passwords to target the Windows computer. For example:
Password Admin Superadmin Jirjk839838jje Ioy789
After a couple of tries, I find the right password and gain access to my target Windows computer.
Also, this is the same thing that I said previously: the meaning of HACKING is "Achieving a result in an unexpected or unconventional way."
You see that different knowledge sources give you different definitions, but some are similar. But in my article, I will say hacking is "Achieving a result in an unexpected or unconventional way".
Last but not least, what is Cybersecurity? And how is hacking connected to Cybersecurity?
๐ก๏ธ Cybersecurity is like locking and protecting your digital house โ making sure the right people can get in, while keeping attackers out.
For example, cybersecurity helps protect your WhatsApp account, facebook account, google, instagram account, bank account, personal photos, passwords, UPI/PhonePe/Paytm payments, and the websites you use from people who shouldn't have access.
Cybersecurity is like an umbrella. Here are multiple specializations:
Penetration testing Ethical hacker (outdated) Red Teaming Security engineer Threat hunter Threat emulation specialist SOC analyst Detection engineer SOC engineer AppSec etc.
Hi my name is saad963. I am in offensive security. You can call me Security Researcher OR Penetration Tester OR Offensive AI Expert. You are currently using AI, and I am attacking AI to secure it that is AI Red Teaming. That is another level of excitement.
Adolf Hitler the origin of "Big Lie" : If you tell a big enough lie and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.
That's also happened with the meaning of hacking. News channels, YouTube videos, and the film industry โ every single entity tries to destroy the image of good hackers.
Could a hacker be honest? Yes. In our world, there are two types of hackers. Number one is Ethical Hackers. Ethical = Honest hackers. Ethical Hackers protect your mobile, computer, iPad, app, camera, Wi-Fi, etc. from bad hackers. Those bad hackers are called black hat hackers. This Number two hackers are black hat hacker.
If you are an educated person, then you will definitely agree with me. But it doesn't mean that you completed college and university with lots of degrees, so you are educated! An educated person, according to the Cybersecurity community, is someone who learns something new every day. A continuous learner. I didn't like formal education because it didn't teach you the valuable skills.
So, what was our main question?
Ah, yes โ it was: Who is a hacker?
Answer: whoever is does hacking, he/she is a hacker.
So, if you've read the entire article, you should now understand what hacking is and who a hacker is. Hacking completely depends on perspective โ that is, the perspective from which you're speaking.
Thanks for reading. If I said something wrong, I apologize. I respect your perspective.
