After gaining extensive operational experience in Ukraine, radio communications specialist Doodle Labs is now expanding its manufacturing ambitions into Europe and the United States, reflecting how electronic warfare has become one of the defining challenges of modern conflicts.

Radios Are Becoming the Hidden Backbone of Modern Drones
Speaking to Defense News, Doodle Labs Senior Director of Sales Ira Hughes explained that the company's wireless mesh networking technology is already being used by Ukrainian drone manufacturers and military units.
According to Hughes, some drone manufacturers even produce two versions of the same aircraft.
The lower-cost version uses inexpensive commercial radios and cameras for routine missions, while another version is equipped with Doodle Labs' advanced communications system for high-value or heavily defended targets.
The reason is simple.
Russian electronic warfare systems frequently attempt to jam drone communications. Once a radio signal is disrupted, operators may lose control of the aircraft before it reaches its destination.
Doodle Labs says its radios can rapidly switch frequencies when interference is detected, allowing drones to continue flying even under active electronic attack.
Instead of remaining fixed on one communication channel, the system can move to another available frequency, making it significantly harder for enemy jammers to completely disrupt operations.

Ukraine Has Become a Real-World Testing Ground
The war in Ukraine has transformed electronic warfare from a specialized military capability into an everyday battlefield reality.
Rather than relying solely on laboratory testing, companies are receiving constant operational feedback from soldiers using their equipment under combat conditions.
For Doodle Labs, this means continuous improvements based on actual battlefield experiences.
Each encounter with electronic jamming provides new data that can be used to improve future products.
Although these technologies are developed for military use, they also highlight how modern conflicts increasingly depend on software, communications, and spectrum management – not only missiles or armored vehicles.

To meet rising demand, Doodle Labs is discussing partnerships with manufacturers in both Europe and the United States while maintaining its existing production facility in Singapore.
The company is also preparing for future U.S. defense procurement requirements.
Hughes noted that potential changes under the U.S. National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), along with "Made in America" incentives, could encourage more localized production for defense suppliers.
Rather than building new factories alone, Doodle Labs plans to work with third-party manufacturing partners so production can quickly scale when required.
The company says it could eventually produce tens of thousands of radios every month – or millions annually – if demand continues growing.

The lesson extends well beyond a single conflict.
As NATO members and other allied countries rapidly expand drone production, secure communications are emerging as one of the most important supply-chain bottlenecks.
A drone without reliable communications is similar to a firefighter losing contact with the command center during a rescue mission.
The aircraft may still fly, but it can no longer perform its mission safely or effectively.
Future competition may therefore shift from simply producing more drones to building resilient communication networks that can survive increasingly sophisticated electronic attacks.
