I show up.

That's what I do. When someone is falling apart, I'm already there before they finish the sentence. When someone needs help, I don't even wait to be asked twice. I just show up because that's who I am, or at least, that's who I've always been.
And I'm not complaining about that. I genuinely want to be there for people. It's not a burden. It's just me.
But here's the thing nobody talks about.
The people who always show up, we struggle too. We have bad days. We fall apart in private. We carry things we never put down because we never learned how to hand them to someone else.
And when we finally reach a point where we need help real help, not just a distraction, we don't know how to ask for it.
I don't know how to ask for it.
There are nights I sit with an assignment I can't figure out, staring at it for hours, and I never once think to call my parents. Not because they wouldn't help. But because they've always seen me handle things on my own. They've always known me as the one who figures it out. And asking feels like I'm about to shatter something they believe about me something I've been quietly protecting for years.
With friends, it's different but somehow harder. I'm the one they come to. I'm the one who listens, who gives advice, who stays on the phone at 2am when they're not okay. And I love that. I really do. But when I'm the one who's not okay, I go quiet. I say "I'm fine" and I mean it enough to get through the conversation. Because what would it look like? The person they always lean on, suddenly needing to lean?
I know it's irrational. I know that needing help doesn't make me weak. I know that even the strongest people have limits.
I know all of this.
And I still can't make myself ask.
Because somewhere along the way, being strong stopped being something I did and started being something I was afraid to stop being.
