Guide Presents Best Cybersecurity Investments for Small Business (and What to Skip)
Ooma published a small business cybersecurity guide that does something a little different: it tells readers what not to buy.
By Mitchell Barrick
According to the team's research, 67% of businesses reported an increase in cyberattacks in 2024, while a 2018 report stated that over 40% of cyberattacks target small businesses. To help and support these business owners, the team split their infographic into two columns: a "need: and "don't need" side.
The "need" side features multi-factor authentication, singled out as the most effective measure a small business can take, as well as automatic updates, password managers, tested backups, phishing training for employees, secure router settings, device management, vendor reviews, access limits, asset inventory, and an incident response plan.
The "skip" side of the graphic includes an in-house Security Operations Center, custom SIEM platforms, biometric logins, redundant tools, and enterprise-grade custom solutions. Cyber insurance earns a qualified verdict of helpful, but it is no substitute for basic security measures.
