I Want to Love, But I’m Scared to Let Anyone In
I crave connection, but a part of me is always waiting for the moment someone decides to leave.

Maybe being scared doesn't mean I'm incapable of loving. Maybe it just means I've been hurt before.
I'm afraid. I'm afraid of getting close to someone again. Not because I don't want people in my life. Actually, it's the opposite. I want connection. I want someone I can talk to without having to think about every word. Someone I can laugh with. Someone I can tell things to without feeling like I'll regret it later.
But I'm scared of what happens after that. I'm scared that once someone gets close enough, they'll start seeing the parts of me I usually keep hidden. The overthinking. The insecurities. The bad days. The thoughts I don't usually talk about. The parts of myself that I don't really like. And what if they see all of that and decide I'm too much?
What if they slowly stop talking to me? What if they find someone easier to be around? That's the part that scares me the most. Getting attached and then having to watch someone leave. I've been through that feeling before. And once you've experienced it, you start protecting yourself without even realizing it.
You want someone close, but when they actually start getting close, you become scared. You want to open up, but then your mind starts asking questions. What if they leave? What if I trust them and they hurt me? What if I show them the real me and they don't like what they see?
Sometimes I feel like my own mind is telling me that I'm too difficult to love. And yet, I still want love. I still want people. I still want those late-night conversations, random jokes, small moments, and the feeling that someone genuinely wants you around.
That's the confusing part. I want connection. But I also want to run away from it. I want to be understood. But I'm scared of being seen. I want someone to stay. But I'm constantly preparing myself for them to leave. It's exhausting. Sometimes I wish I could just switch this part of me off. Either stop making me crave people so much…
Or teach me how to let someone in without being terrified of losing them. Maybe I'll learn eventually. Maybe I'll understand that not everyone who gets close to me is going to leave. Maybe I'll finally believe that I don't have to be perfect to be loved. For now, I'm still figuring it out. I'm still learning how to let people in without expecting them to disappear.
And maybe that's okay.
Maybe being scared doesn't mean I'm incapable of loving. Maybe it just means I've been hurt before. And I'm still trying to learn that it's safe to love again.
