This update was necessary because large Azure environments often need secure IaaS-to-PaaS connectivity across many VNets, subnets, subscriptions, and workloads. Standard service endpoint improves scalability by allowing customers to associate a single public IP or prefix with multiple subnets or virtual networks within the same tenant and region, while integrating with network security perimeter for stronger access control.
