My experience into the DragonJAR Conference

Today I'm writing from a place of intuition, experience, and the deep curiosity that anchored me to the world of cybersecurity. This is my first post on this platform, and I want it to reflect a technical and personal journey that many of you out there will be able to relate to. My story with DragonJAR didn't begin in 2026. It began in the midst of the pandemic, when the global lockdown changed the way I interacted with the world and pushed me to reconnect with a latent obsession with technology. In search of answers and learning opportunities, my radar led me to one of the country's most iconic communities, forged by key figures in Colombia's cybersecurity scene such as Jacobo Tibaquirá and Jaime Restrepo. Discovering their ecosystem — the consulting firm, DragonJAR Education, the forums, and the YouTube channel — was like gaining root access to a whole new world. I devoured interviews with legendary figures like Chema Alonso, Kevin Mitnick, and Captain Crunch, quickly realizing that the community and I shared something that goes beyond technical skills: an absolute passion for understanding what lies behind systems.

DragonJAR Security Conference 2026

The year 2026 arrived — a year of contrasts and goals. My city, Pereira, had just been rocked by an earthquake that, ironically, I felt was the catalyst for major personal transformations. The odds seemed stacked against me, and imposter syndrome was doing its thing, whispering to me: "This event isn't for you; you're not ready yet; you still have a long way to go." But I made a gut decision. I silenced my doubts, packed my backpack, and traveled to Medellín to attend the DragonJAR Security Conference at the El Tesoro Convention Center.

My heart was racing before I even walked through the doors. Walking in and seeing Jaime Restrepo in person — someone I deeply admire for keeping this community at the forefront for so many years — was surreal. Suddenly, the profiles and usernames I'd only known through pixels had faces. I was able to reconnect with friends from my hometown, debate in the hallways, and connect with minds that process information on the same wavelength as mine. I've always felt a little different, sometimes thinking that my obsession with cybersecurity bordered on madness. But walking through those doors showed me that out there, there's a whole legion of people with that same intensity. Taking in the keynote talks and witnessing the organizing team's monumental effort was inspiring, but the event's greatest "exploit" was internal.

When you look experts in the eye, you realize a fundamental truth: you have exactly the same human capabilities to get to where they are. This event allowed me to overcome my own insecurities, giving me the confidence to continue researching, creating, and contributing value to society.
