Wish For Peace
On folding something tender and taking it back before it can hold

By Michele Nampalli
POETRY
There's a layer of clover honey sitting inside my core above hip bones in the soft bits a paper weight of in-between things simmering
I folded origami over it to keep my hands busy stringing the thread through the needle a rhythm of pieces became a garland of Washi cranes capturing light
I draped it around your neck left my hand on your sternum and looked into your eyes to ask you to make a wish over less than one thousand cranes
And so I crumpled the living paper into a ball and went to bed without texture.
