Introduction

Recently, I started exploring the field of cybersecurity, and the more I learned about it, the more interesting it became. This article marks the beginning of my journey into understanding this field.

From HR to Cybersecurity

My academic background is in commerce, and professionally I have been working in Human Resources. Most of my work has involved understanding people, managing workplace situations, and building professional relationships.

At first glance, cybersecurity might seem like a completely different world.

But curiosity often leads us in unexpected directions.

While exploring different areas of technology, I began learning about cybersecurity concepts and tools. What initially felt complex slowly started making sense as I spent more time understanding the fundamentals.

HR focuses on understanding human behavior, while cybersecurity focuses on understanding how systems work, where vulnerabilities exist, and how attackers try to exploit them.

One important realization during this transition was simple:

It is never too late to start learning something new.

If attackers gain access to this data, the consequences can be serious — ranging from financial loss to reputational damage.

Starting the Learning Journey

For beginners, cybersecurity can feel overwhelming because it involves many technical areas.

However, starting with the fundamentals makes the journey much easier. Areas such as networking basics, Linux fundamentals, and web security form the foundation for understanding cybersecurity.

Hands-on practice also plays a major role. Platforms like TryHackMe and Hack The Box provide safe environments where beginners can practice and build practical skills.

Closing Thoughts

Cybersecurity is one of the fastest-growing fields in technology today.

For someone transitioning from a non-technical background, the journey may seem challenging at first. But every new concept learned brings a deeper understanding of how digital systems work.

For me, this journey has just begun — moving from understanding people in HR to understanding systems in cybersecurity.
