Google rankings don't start with backlinks. They start with a website that can actually be crawled, understood, and trusted. A beautiful WordPress website isn't automatically an SEO-friendly website. Before spending more time creating content or building backlinks, make sure these fundamentals are in place: Technical SEO 1 Ensure that your site is indexed! 2 Check robots.txt settings 3 Submit your XML Sitemap to Google Search Console. 4 Use HTTPS 5 Fix broken links and 404 errors 6 Return 200 for important pages 7 Check mobile usability 8 Optimize Core Web Vitals & Page Speed On-Page SEO 9. Give every important page a unique title tag 10. Write useful meta descriptions 11. Use one clear primary topic per page 12. Create logical H1, H2 and H3 headings 13. Optimize URLs so they're short and descriptive 14. Add relevant internal links 15. Optimize images and use descriptive alt text Content & Site Structure 16. Remove or improve thin/low-value pages 17. Avoid duplicate or near-duplicate content 18. Create clear category/topic structures 19. Make your content genuinely useful to the reader 20. Add relevant author/business information where appropriate 21. Review Google Search Console regularly for indexing and performance issues The important part: Avoid the all-or-nothing approach of trying to "SEO everything" all at once. Beginners: indexability, technical issues, site structure, content quality, internal linking, ongoing measurement. And remember: SEO is not a ploy to fool Google. It's about improving your website for search engines and for real people. As a business owner, that's a much better place to start than going out and publishing dozens of new posts you don't know is what is holding your website back. 💬 Question: Which is the biggest issue you have encountered with your WordPress site in terms of SEO — indexing, speed, keywords, content or backlinks?
