In the hustle and bustle of the past few days, I seem to have lost my simple ability to be amazed. If anyone finds it, please return it to its owner, as my vision has become very dull without it.
I don't know exactly at what point I left it behind. Did it fall from me while I was running after endless errands? Or did I forget it on the seat of that train I boarded in a hurry, heading towards the "dream" I had always longed for?
The current description of what's missing: something like a small light, something that would make me smile if a cat ran across the street, or if a raindrop touched the windowpane. It filled my soul with warmth just by reading a line in a book, or by hearing an old song I hadn't heard in years.
Now, great things pass before me as if they were paintings in a deserted museum. I look at them, I know their value, but I don't feel them.
I'm not sad, and that's the scary part about the report. I'm just… "normal" to a fault. And excessive normality is another form of fading away.
Epilogue: If you come across it on your way, or find it hanging on the wall of one of the cafes, don't keep it to yourself. Tell me immediately, for I miss the way I used to look at the world.
