ON THE OTHER END

Today I received an unexpected call.

I heard his voice say my name.

That sweet voice

that feels like fire inside me.

I never thought that when I answered the phone,

it would be his voice

I would hear

on the other end.

For a moment, I was stunned

and couldn't hear

what he was trying to tell me.

Because who would have thought

that after all this time,

he would be the one calling me,

the one looking for me?

Who would have thought

he could still stir something so deep in me

just by the tone

of his voice?

I think he said he wanted to see me.

Apparently, I couldn't understand a single word.

I couldn't get anything out of my mouth.

My voice closed up.

My heart stopped.

As much as I want

to be with him,

there are too many memories

I still can't forget.

I want to hold him.

I want to kiss him.

But how can I have him?

How can I make love,

hold him,

and love him,

without having overcome

everything we did to each other

in the past?

My heart is screaming at me:

"Please, give me

what I've been asking you for

for months."

But my mind holds me back.

Who do I listen to?

Who do I follow?

And that's why I stay frozen.

In the end, I do nothing.

I stay there with the phone in my hand,

listening to everything

he wants to tell me,

but not really hearing

anything at all.
