It all began shortly after I failed my first PJPT attempt. I was feeling defeated and anxious, and I wanted to prove something to myself. I felt like I needed a win. I had been completing room after room on TryHackMe, so failing PJPT felt like a major setback — a win that had been right within my grasp.
To rebuild my momentum, I decided to purchase the eJPT certificate bundle. I had heard that it was beginner-friendly, making it the perfect candidate to validate my skills. Initially, I was tempted to rush straight into the exam, but I stopped myself and decided to go through the coursework first. Looking back, that was the best decision I could have made.
Here is the strategy I used: watching hours of lecture videos felt inefficient since I was already familiar with most of the covered topics. Instead, I went straight to the labs — and specifically targeted the Skill Check Labs.
I worked through them systematically, one after another. Each lab taught me something new — a fresh methodology, a new tool, or a clever bypass technique — all of which I documented in Notion. Within five days, I had covered every essential technique needed for the exam.
To be clear: my prior hands-on experience from TryHackMe gave me a solid foundation, but I lacked an official certification to prove it. Once prepared, I took the exam and completed the entire assessment within 11 hours.
Key Tips to Pass eJPT in a Week
- Complete every Skill Check lab: Do not skip these. They are specifically designed to test your critical thinking and force you to apply your knowledge.
- Avoid completionism: Only watch the lecture videos for concepts you are unfamiliar with or actively struggle with.
- Focus on complex labs: Pay extra attention to labs covering Privilege Escalation and CMS testing, as these pay off significantly during the exam.
- Review the fundamentals: Double-check your basics in networking and routing unless you are already fully confident in them.
My Exam Experience
Overall, I genuinely enjoyed taking the exam. While the initial setup felt a bit overwhelming, everything quickly fell into place once my methodology kicked in.
If you stick to a structured workflow, document your steps carefully, and focus on practical application over passive watching, you can easily clear the eJPT in a week. Good luck to everyone preparing for their attempt!
I'll be back with a new story soon :)
