Day 1 of My AWS Cloud Journey: Getting Hands-On with AWS Console and Regions
Introduction

By Jacob Idowu
1 min read
Today, I officially started my hands-on AWS Cloud Practitioner journey.
I've been learning the concepts, but today I wanted to move beyond just watching lessons and actually get comfortable working inside the AWS Management Console.
What I Practiced Today
☁️ AWS Management Console
I explored the AWS Management Console and started getting familiar with how AWS services are organized and accessed.
The goal was not just to click around, but to understand how I can navigate the AWS environment and find the services I need.
🌍 AWS Regions
I also learned about AWS Regions and why they are important when working with cloud infrastructure.
A Region is a physical geographic area where AWS has data centers. Choosing a Region can affect things such as:
- Latency
- • Availability
- • Data residency
- • Service availability
- • Cost
🏢 Availability Zones
I also explored the concept of Availability Zones (AZs).
I learned that Availability Zones are separate locations within an AWS Region, designed to help applications achieve greater availability and resilience.
Understanding the relationship between Regions and Availability Zones is important because cloud infrastructure isn't just about putting resources somewhere — it is also about thinking about availability, reliability, and resilience.
What I Took Away From Today
One thing I realized today is that learning cloud computing is much different when you actually get your hands on the platform.
Instead of only memorizing definitions, I'm beginning to understand how these concepts fit into a real cloud environment.
Today was just Day 1, but it's a step forward.
Next Up: Day 2 — IAM
I'm looking forward to learning how AWS manages identities, permissions, and access to resources.
I'm documenting this journey as I learn AWS, Cloud Security, and Cloud Engineering, one practical lab at a time.
