Artificial Lights
Today I learned about why flying bugs fly towards light sources — even when it's an artificial light.
Scientists are still uncovering this, however, hypotheses state that it's because they navigate using light of the moon, the sun, and the stars.
In the darker hours of the day, these bugs look for sources of light that lead them towards freedom and openness and vastness. They look continuously for sources of light. They fly and dive around sources of light and hoping to find an entrance into the brightness of it. Or have the light guide them on their journey.
It makes me wonder about how often we as human beings keep on running towards artificial lights; towards light bulbs and streetlamps and little glimmers of things that give us hope to somewhere with more freedom. We always wander and look for light. Expressions like "light at the end of the tunnel", "looking for light" show just that when we're in periods of confusion, grief, or darkness.
Artificial lights give us hope and an idea of where our deepest desires might lie and where our edges are. These could be jobs, relationships, life experiences, name it, anything external. Artificial lights are not inherently bad or good. They simply are. Reminders to what is true and authentic to our core. We don't need to remove them from our environments because they help us become more aware — we can build relationships with these lights.
Some lights are stagnant and fixed and others move with us where we go.
This is the path of seeing and wandering around artificial lights and seeing ourselves more and more clearly and breathing awareness and consciousness into our present moment as we move inwards. As we run into artificial lights, we can ask ourselves, what is this quality that I yearn for? Where in my body am I suppressing or rejecting these qualities that I see reflected in this artificial light?
Where is my true light — and once I find it, how can I live more and more in alignment to it, and tap into my deepest joys in this life? When do I find myself in darkness and find myself relying on the artificial lights or even the sun, the moon, the stars to help me find myself?
For me writing, resting, creating, playing, exploring, learning and so many other things that are so beautiful about us beings help me see my light more clearly and come home back to Self.
I hope that you can also see where your artificial lights stand and how you can draw your attention closer to home for you.
Lots of love.
