Choosing a VAPT Partner? Your Industry Changes What You Need to Test
Two companies can request a penetration test and need very different assessments.

A SaaS platform may need to validate tenant isolation. A fintech product may need scrutiny of transaction and payment workflows. A healthcare application may require careful testing of access to sensitive records.
The vendor selection process should start with these risks not a price comparison.
What should you evaluate?
- Industry-relevant attack paths
Ask the provider to explain which realistic scenarios they would assess and why those scenarios matter to your product or business.
- Identity and trust boundaries
For SaaS platforms, consider how access is enforced across tenants, roles, APIs and shared services. The important question is whether the intended access restrictions hold across relevant paths โ not just whether a scanner reports known vulnerabilities.
- Data and transaction risk
Identify the sensitive data, critical workflows and transaction outcomes that matter most. The assessment should be scoped around those priorities and the consequences of a failure.
- Evidence quality
A useful report should connect each conclusion to the authorised scope, testing method, observed evidence, limitations and recommended next action. Finding counts alone do not establish assessment quality.
- Safe execution and closure
Agree on production safeguards, escalation contacts, stop conditions and retesting expectations before work begins. Clarify what evidence will demonstrate that a reported issue has been addressed.
Ask a better question before signing
Instead of asking only, "How much does your VAPT cost?", ask:
- Which critical workflows and trust boundaries will you test?
- How will you validate access-control and business-logic assumptions?
- What evidence will we receive?
- What limitations or exclusions will be documented?
- How will remediation and retesting be handled?
The answers help you compare proposals on meaningful criteria rather than presentation quality or price alone.
The takeaway: Choose a VAPT partner based on the risks your system actually carries, the depth of testing required and the evidence your stakeholders need.
