September 10: Describe your most irrational fear. Minh
It's not hard to guess what my fear is. Yes, butterflies. I have an irrational fear of butterflies. Can I explain it? No. Is there a reason? Nope.
There is a bird house at our local zoo. I can walk around in there no problem. Birds fly around me. Doesn't bother me at all.
You couldn't pay me any amount of money to go into the butterfly house at the Pacific Science Center in Seattle. No way. Not happening. Ever.
I will look from a safe distance at a pretty butterfly sitting on a flower outside. As soon as it starts flying, I run away. Everybody laughs. I don't care. I don't want them anywhere near me when they are flying.
My grandkids think it's hilarious and ridiculous. It is. I don't have an explanation for it.
I know I don't want them near me because I don't want to hurt them. They flutter around erratically. I don't like bugs that jump either, like crickets or spiders. My daughter loves jumping spiders. She thinks they are adorable. Not I. No thank you.
Worms are fine. I dig with my grandsons looking for them. Beetles and spiders are fun to watch in the garden. Bees, ladybugs, dragonflies, all fine.
No butterflies.
I love animals and bugs are cool. But I draw the line at butterflies. Not for me, thanks!
