Living your life guided by your Ego can really mess you up and even cause you to lose your way — miss your ships from coming in.
And I'm not referring to the Ego commonly known defined as "a person's sense of self-esteem or self-importance (Oxford Languages)."
I'm talking about the metaphysical Ego that "represents the conscious thinking subject." But what does that mean?
In Psychoanalysis, the Ego refers to "the part of the mind that mediates between the conscious and the unconscious and is responsible for reality testing and a sense of personal identity."
Theo Harrison's description of the Ego in his article Unmasking The Ego: How To Take Off The Mask and Be Your True Self published in The Mindful Journal more closely aligns with what I'm thinking. The author references Deepak Chopra's definition of the Ego referring to it as one's self-image or the mask we wear to persuade others of who we want to be.
The Ego can be quite different from who we really are within — our true selves. Creating our identity from a lens of fear, insecurity, lack, can't, jealousy, desperation, low-self esteem, preconditioning, self-sacrifice, imbalanced compromise —will cause us to live life at a lower vibration.
Accepting the shorter end of the stick because it's the easiest path or because you don't think you are deserving of the full stick is an Ego-driven action.
Making life decisions from your Ego can leave one blinded, caught, and trapped in situations that lead to confusion, disappointment, regret, and even worse — loss of time. I would know.
I spun my wheels for 19 years because I feared showing my true self. I hid because I couldn't admit the truth to myself; the truth that everyone else seemed to see except me.

Getting Out Of Your Ego
To get out of your Ego you must heal. But you can't heal without first releasing the Ego. That is quite a beautiful paradox.
To release the Ego you must surrender or let go of your insecurities, fears, lacks, can'ts, jealousy, desperations, low-self esteem, preconditions, self-sacrifices, imbalanced compromises — and start raising your vibration to a higher frequency.
Surrendering may involve admitting and accepting that your ego may not know what is in your best interests. To surrender to an experience or emotion one must relinquish control of them and their outcomes.
Karma steps in when the Ego wins to help set things right for you.
Karma is not intended to punish you; Its intent is to teach you the lessons you need to know to ultimately help you free yourself from your own Ego. Karma happens for you, not to you.
Karma is a Sanskrit word meaning action referring to a cycle of cause-and-effect.

Karma is a redirection, not a punishment.
I personally like to think of Karma as the Divine Intervention that helps us get back on the path towards the successful fulfillment of our soul contracts and our life purpose.
Your life purpose is what you make it to be — the choices you make or actions you take to get there make all the difference in how, when, and whether you get there.
"Let's take the road of less Karmic resistance. Surrender the Ego. Fly on the wings of your divine helpers and your earthly angels. When your path is revealed to you. Follow it!" ~ Michelle With Wings
