**Trigger warning — Do NOT read this story right now if you're hungry and don't want to feel hungriER!
When my German partner, who was born and raised in Germany, spent time with me in the United States for the first time, exactly 3 years ago this Saturday, he kept mentioning how hard it was to find any good bread that wasn't ridiculously expensive.
I thought he was being dramatic.
American bread wasn't THAT bad, nor THAT expensive for "good bread".
I've since learned the serious errors in my thinking.

Honestly, when I lived in the United States, I didn't eat bread very often. When I bought it, I usually bought organic sprouted bread that is healthier than normal bread.
It didn't taste great, but I liked it with hummus or peanut butter and jelly, which were relatively healthy, quick, and easy snacks that I could make during my intense 5-year stint as a full-time student (while working).
Occasionally, I'd buy "gourmet bread" that might have been baked with kalamata olives or rosemary. Those were my favorites!
However, living by myself and only eating bread once in a while meant that half the time I bought gourmet bread, it began to mold before I could finish it.
It also usually cost me almost $5 a loaf — for non-organic bread.

Do you see the sunflower seeds ALL over this bread??
It was less than $5 for a loaf AND it's organic!
I've already written a short story about how impressed I've been with German bread since I arrived in Germany almost 4 months ago.
But this loaf….
It takes things to a whole new level.

Germany is #winning when it comes to bread making — and I am absolutely loving it!
