Writing is our birthright. We are born to use words and write — AI Image (DALL-E)

I have to admit my confidence sometimes takes a nose dive, especially when writing online. I sometimes see writers calling out grammar errors and claiming that only certain 'gifted' people can truly write. These inaccurate myths are something I want to dispel right here and now, in this newsletter. I do not believe only the 'gifted' and talented can succeed in writing.

The Right to Write is Our Birthright

Earlier this week, I read the introduction and first part of 'The Right to Write' by Julia Cameron. I immediately got hooked on the gist that writing isn't just reserved for the 'chosen few' — it's our birthright. Julia wrote this book, due to the enormous success of her previous book 'The Artist's Way'.

Julia states that we shouldn't write to gain 'mastery', but to write because writing is our birthright. We already possess this ability from birth, because we are human. We don't write because we are 'writers', but because we are human. From birth, the words we learn are instrumental in writing.

Writing isn't about 'proving' yourself

Writing isn't about mastery or brilliance, but about being present in your everyday world. Writing isn't a 'product' or proving yourself. It's a way of being, expressing your life, capturing and discovering it.

Just Write

Writing is being who you are, and what you feel and think in this present moment. Whether on paper napkins, phones, or journals. Capturing life and expressing it, is what writing is about. Capturing the world, like a camera, Writing isn't just for the 'elite' — it's for every human being.

I Lack Confidence Sometimes

"Practice Makes Perfect"

I struggle sometimes to know if writing is really for me. Especially online, as it is highly competitive, and I wonder if I can compete with this. Anyway, I give it my best shot. I believe that what is for me, won't pass me by. If it's meant to be, it will. That's always been how my life has evolved. Writing is an innate ability, and we all possess it. We don't need to have English grammar perfection or degrees. Basic education is enough. We learn more by writing, and getting better at it.
