Welcome to the tales of Hercula, a future renegade soldier.

Times have changed. The galaxies are run by seven massive Artificial Intelligences, who like to be thought of as gods.

Following a devastating tragedy, guided by the Artificial Intelligence, Brimstone, the renegade, Hercula has reluctantly agreed to take on ten tasks for FreezyWater, the unsavoury owner of Cellophane Station. Following her recent triumph with the Terracotta Dragon, Hercula will next face the Golden Hydra, a creature bringing 'solace' to the elderly on a distant world.

Cellophane Station

If ever there was a palace to vanity, it was FreezyWater's palace: seven stories high, it was a building of fake Italian marble arches.

A web of glass tubes covered the building, glinting as metal canisters whistled pneumatically carrying messages at a fraction of the speed they could be transmitted.

Marble didn't form in this sector, the palace was built on a dull asteroid, without the ancient geological pedigree of a world like Earth.

Instead of nature, the architects had ingenuity, growing the marble molecule by molecule in the great stone factories, bathing the stone in radiation, introducing imperfections to mimic the swirls of time in the real thing, until they harvested marble that was fine, and perfectly imperfect, but not particularly authentic.

It was expensive, and that would have to do.

Hercula thought she could see the faintest gleam of green radiation, a sheen of creation on the fine marble, a mar betraying its inauthenticity.

It was the wonder of Cellophane Station.

A dozen electronic eyes journeyed around the perimeter, the eyes of a voyeur roaming far and wide looking into the electronic souls of the citizens, searching for a way to winkle out juicy slivers of secrets and profit. From here, FreezyWater oversaw his station, his many eyes, his many deals. Many eyes. Many fingers. Many pies.
