Part of this drive comes from my innate passion for self-improvement and a belief that I can get better. I have years of evidence that I can improve, so I continue to work on it. I have built my self-talk around two mantras: learn to love the process and train yourself to outwork everyone. I also built my coaching business around these ideas and they play a valuable role in my ability to write every day in addition to a full-time consulting job, a part-time Army Reservist, and a Ph.D. student studying business psychology.

As I continue to progress toward my definite purpose, or what I call a Massively Transformative Purpose, the true lessons lie in the path itself. My fire or "burn" is to learn and grow every day inching closer to my true potential while simultaneously pushing the boundary on what exactly that is.

"My fire or "burn" is to learn and grow every day inching closer to my true potential while simultaneously pushing the boundary on what exactly that is."

The lessons learned from working on yourself are infinite. You are constantly in a state of improvement while looking for ways to gain even a slight edge over yourself and what you thought you were capable of. For someone like me who has very little innate talent, the process can become discouraging, and debilitating. It hurts to fail so often knowing that you cannot settle for where you are or what you have because, at your core, you need to keep pushing the boundaries of who you are and what you are becoming.

I've learned to celebrate both triumphs and setbacks, as they are the cornerstone of a fulfilling life. I write, read, and think about these lessons as opportunities and look forward to experiencing them again and again in a relentless pursuit to reach my full potential.

Change Starts Within

True change is an inside job. It begins with a shift in mindset and attitude before it manifests in external actions.

"Watch your thoughts; they become your words.

Watch your words; they become your actions.

Watch your actions; they become your habits

Watch your habits; they become your character.

Watch your character; it becomes your destiny."

— Frank Outlaw, 20th Century American Writer

Consistency Over Intensity

Regular, small efforts often yield better long-term results than short bursts of intense activity. Consistency in habits and efforts is more sustainable and effective.

"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." — Aristotle

Failure is a Stepping Stone

Every failure is an opportunity to learn and grow. Embracing failure as part of the process demystifies it and removes its power to discourage.

Always remember: Failure is not the opposite of success, it's an essential part of it.

Self-Compassion is Key

Being kind to oneself in moments of failure or inadequacy is crucial for resilience. Self-compassion fosters a healthier relationship with oneself.

Try to treat yourself with the same kindness you would offer a friend in distress.

The Importance of Setting Boundaries

Setting healthy boundaries is essential for self-respect and personal growth. It teaches others how to treat us and allows us to conserve our energy for what truly matters.

"Daring to set boundaries is about having the courage to love ourselves, even when we risk disappointing others." — Brené Brown

Growth Requires Discomfort

Stepping out of your comfort zone is necessary for growth. Comfort zones are often growth-limiting, and embracing discomfort is a sign of progress.

The comfort zone is a beautiful place, but nothing ever grows there.

The Power of Gratitude

Practicing gratitude shifts focus from what is lacking to what is abundant. This shift fosters positive emotions and resilience.

Keeping a journal can transform your perspective, turning ordinary moments into blessings.

Mindfulness Enhances Life

Being present and mindful in each moment enriches experiences and reduces stress. Mindfulness leads to a deeper appreciation of life.

"The present moment is the only time over which we have dominion." — Thích Nhất Hạnh

Make the Journey Personal

Self-improvement is not a one-size-fits-all journey. What works for one person may not work for another. Embracing your unique path is essential.

Take ownership of the process. Think about what YOU do every day and how you can control those things.

Lifelong Learning is Vital

The pursuit of knowledge and skills is never-ending. Lifelong learning keeps the mind sharp and the spirit engaged.

"Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever." — Mahatma Gandhi

The true mastery of self-improvement lies not just in achieving specific goals but in embracing the journey and its lessons as part of our ongoing evolution.
