Hello, my fellow readers and writers. May comes to an end, and I would like to share my experience throughout this month, which I consider to be the toughest month until now. I thought I understood the platform quite well, but in reality, I'm not so sure. So, in this article, I'll be highlighting some key points that contributed to my diminished visibility, consistency, and persistence.

Medium is your online platform for sharing articles or stories, where you can earn a few cents from your writing, and if you're lucky enough to go viral or know someone that knows someone who has a connection with the Medium team or algorithm to help your story get boosted, then you might even earn some cash — just kidding, smile.

As I mentioned, this month resembled my very first month on the platform when my views were below 100. At the beginning of this month, I struggled to write on the platform due to a full schedule of activities. The first demotivating incident occurred when I was kicked out of a Facebook group that happened to be the most active Medium writers group on Facebook, and I was gaining a lot of views from it.

Secondly, I went on a 5-day trip and did not engage with others' articles or write on the platform. As a result, my visibility dropped from 800 views to 200 views per day, which was painful to witness. Don't underestimate the power of engagement on this platform — it's the only thing that keeps both you and me alive. Trust me.

Moving on to the third point, I fell sick — possibly with COVID — and couldn't write or conduct any research. Fortunately, I recovered quickly, taking only a few days to get back to work.

Then there were the Medium referrals. I lost everyone except one. It's as if people suddenly decided not to renew or use my referral link. That's quite disheartening. Back in April, I had 5 or 6 people using my referral link. It's okay, though. I understand if you just forgot to renew — I've left the link below.

Now, regarding earnings, I can confirm that I'm not among the 10% of writers earning $100 or more. I didn't promote my articles enough, and I stopped posting regularly on Twitter. I only posted on LinkedIn twice this month — so yeah what could I expect?

Medium is unlike other social media platforms. If you don't knock, no one will open. If you don't mark, no one will check. We need to understand it this way because that's actually how it works here. Clap to be notified, and comment, highlight to leave your mark so that those who come will check on you. As always, thank you for taking the time to read!
