When I decided to refresh my resume, I was seeking a professional, high-quality service. I decided to go with TopResume because their website seemed compelling and professional. I opted for their most expensive, premium option ($350) which I assumed would lead to the best outcome.

Expectations were high, but the reality was a stark disappointment.

Upon receiving the first draft of my resume, it was immediately clear that the quality was subpar. The content felt generic, as though it had been generated by ChatGPT, lacking the personalized touch and industry-specific insights I expected from a "premium" service.

The resume called me a "general management professional" and that I had a "credible history in leading multi-disciplinary teams and saving time by identifying and eliminating redundant commitments."

I don't even know what that means.

As I delved deeper into resolving my issues with TopResume, it became apparent that the company might merely be a front for hiring inexpensive overseas labor — a service that one could easily procure directly on platforms like Fiverr or Upwork at a fraction of the cost. Why, then, was I paying a premium?

After expressing my dissatisfaction, TopResume offered to reassign my project to one of their top-tier writers. This gesture prompted a critical question: Why wasn't such a writer assigned to handle my resume from the outset? The business model seems flawed — relying heavily on cheap labor for initial drafts, reserving skilled professionals only to handle customer complaints.

Once I realized that this was a losing game, I decided to ask for a refund. They finally got back to me over a month later and said they were denying the refund. At this point, I no longer needed the resume so this was highly frustrating.

To this day, despite following up and even initiating a dispute through my credit card company, TopResume has not honored a refund.

My experience with TopResume was far from the professional solution it promised to be, and I hope my story helps others reconsider using such services. There are more direct, transparent, and economical ways to get professional resume help without the unnecessary markup and disappointing service.

If you're considering TopResume in 2024, think twice. There are better options available that truly value customer satisfaction and deliver on their promises.
