I know you'll be expecting me to continue my story from where I left off with Alpha, but I'd like to take a slightly different turn tonight. I'd like to write about the role of the Holy Spirit in the life of a Christian BP debater for the next fifteen minutes. It is currently 11:37pm so i'd be stopping this by 11:52.
What brought this on, you might be wondering.
Well, today in Church, we learned about the Holy Spirit and His role in conviction, new birth/new life, and most importantly in sanctification. The entire time PDams was preaching at CCI Yaba today, my mind went back to how my relationship with the Holy Spirit started.
I was home recently (last week), and my mum made a comment about how I had come so far from the teenage girl who didn't want to have anything at all to do with the Holy Spirit (since the sins against Him were not going to be forgiven, or speaking in tongues since I never want to be in a position where I'm speaking gibberish or saying things I don't understand), to the person I am now.
My Christian journey has been filled with quite a number of experiences and certain milestones, but I would say this with all certainty, the presence of the Holy Spirit in a believer's life is a cheat-code like no other. Sometimes I wonder how people who aren't believers actually find it easy to live, because to be frank, life can be uncertain and difficult most times, but the presence of a comforter just makes a whole world of difference.
When I started debating seriously in 2020, and it became clear to me that I'd likely never win any tournament no matter how much I wanted to, I started focusing more on what God would have me do as a debater. Yes, the great commission is to preach the gospel everywhere and to everyone, I wouldn't say I've successfully preached to anyone within the debate space, but I know I've connected with certain people that I never would have connected with if not for divine orchestration.
Take Vee for example, who entered my dm the very next day after I told God I wanted more female friends in debate (I always tell her she came into my life as an answer to my prayers, and even if she might think it's mere coincidence, I know it is more than that) or Angel, who has truly been an angel in human form for me.
I've spoken to people I would have otherwise ignored if not for the nudging of the Spirit, and I've become friends with people who I genuinely can't explain how or why we became friends.
I have firsthand experience of the Holy Spirit being a comforter, and also a teacher and guide, and a revealer of people's hearts, even debaters, so I would say the role of the Holy Spirit in the life of any believer is huge and cannot be overemphasized….. If the believer actually listens to the Holy Spirit and obeys His leading.
I'll see you tomorrow for the next part. It is now 11:55pm, three minutes after I should have stopped, but if there's something you'd like me to address in particular, let me know in the comments, or in my dm.
Love and Light.
