Nowadays, money is essential for us to survive. Most of the things that we need require money to purchase. The more developed our country is, the higher the price of the goods.
Although most of us have full-time jobs yet, we still hardly can afford some of the necessities. Is it us who can't manage our money well or our essential stuff is getting expensive.
Here are four lists of things that should be free, in my honest opinion.
1. Education
I finished college in 2017. I check my college debt schedule on monthly repayment. It seems like my debt will be clear by mid of 2028. First of all, I am not complaining; to be honest, this debt is why I work hard and have a side hustle at the same time. Debt is just my motivation to earn more money.
However, not everyone affords to pay for college or university fees. Some smart people are out there, yet they couldn't afford to study abroad. What about a scholarship? It's not easy to get a scholarship, and some colleges don't have this option.
What about foreign language or online classes? Mandarin and English languages are becoming crucial languages. In my place here, if you can speak or understand Mandarin and English, it would be easier for you to find a great job. It is not an assurance to get a good job, but you will have the advantage when applying for any job.
Do you think we should pay for online classes or courses? Yes, some online classes are free and accessible to everyone. But most of these classes are just some basic things that you can google on the internet. The basic online course provides us with basic or common knowledge. Advanced classes required us to pay hundreds of dollars.
2. Therapy and counselling
One of my friends has suffered from depression and anxiety since his father passed away due to Covid19. One day, he told me about his therapy session and how much it cost. A one-time therapy session costs around 200–300 for 60–90 minutes. I didn't ask him either they provided him with some medicinal or anything.
But why does therapy cost that much? Many ill people are out there; they couldn't even afford a one-time session therapy with their minimum wages. We spend 60–90 minutes with them, hoping for us to get better. But seeing our bank account after paying will not make us feel better.
The same goes for counselling. Right?
3. Financial advice
We should learn the long term and the short term in managing money. There is some free webinar on social media. But as usual, the free webinar is always the basic thing, while if you need some advanced knowledge, we need to pay for advanced classes.
We should learn how to manage our money, especially when we are young. Able to invest and have financial planning would be great for future wealth building. Not just blindly invest, but invest with knowledge — know the pros and cons.
It's not that we are trying to be rich with some financial advice. But at least at the end of the day, we still can put food on our table. We do not want the life that always has to wait for payday to eat good food.
Again, other than these 3, I thought face masks should be free too? But only in-school students should be given 1–2 pieces of face masks during this pandemic. After all, children are our future.
Anyway, these are my honest opinion. Some people might disagree, but any objection will be taken positively. Just like my college debt, instead of saying paying debt is a burden, let's make our debt our motivation on earning some extra cash.
