"You're not smart enough. They won't hire you." His words from last night echoed in her head as she dabbed stain remover on the tablecloth. The red wine spill barely faded.
"I'm sorry Nikki, it was the wine talking. I'm going to quit drinking."
"I know Dad."
She continued to scrub.
"It won't come out," he mumbled and glanced at her suitcase by the door.
"Exactly. Like your statement. A stain on my heart. I can forgive you, but your words will always be there. I got the job. The email came through this morning."
"Please don't leave me, Nikki."
