Jack Dorsey is one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the world. He is the co-founder of Twitter and Square (today Block, the company I will focus on). Two companies worth billions of dollars.
What makes Dorsey's story even more impressive is that: he went bankrupt, he was unemployed, he peaked with Twitter, and then he started all over again with another company.
His hardest periods were two: overcoming shyness and stammering, and raising his head after the company he worked for closed down.
In his experience, he managed to overcome these two bad times thanks to principles that he applied with diligence. He may not have known they were lessons for us, but subconsciously he did.

GETTING OUT OF THE TUNNEL OF SHYNESS AND CLOSURE
Dorsey was born in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1976.
As a child, he suffered from a serious problem, stuttering, that made it difficult for him to communicate with others. This led to him being introverted and shy, which caused him problems in school.
In an interview with the Academy of Achievement, Dorsey said that one day he simply decided to speak without thinking.
"I started talking more and realized that if I took breaks, people would think I was done," he said.
"So I started talking faster, then they thought I was always talking."
This new way of communicating helped him overcome his stuttering problem. But it didn't happen overnight — it took a lot of hard work and practice.
From this, he drew the first lesson that took him far. Let me explain further.
Overcoming this obstacle paved the way for his future as a programmer.
Dorsey went to college at New York University.
At the age of 15, he created software to manage a taxi company, and when it came to choosing a university, Jack had no doubts about which institution to attend.
At this point, Jack abandons his education, as always happens in these circumstances, throwing himself into the world of business and digital entrepreneurship.
HARD TIMES: WORKING FOR A COMPANY THAT FAILS
In 2000, Dorsey joined Odeo, a company that developed podcasting software. However, the company went bankrupt shortly after joining due to the dot-com crash.
He was one of the five founding engineers of Odeo, who helped people share audio content like podcasts:

Dorsey decided to go on his own and become an excellent programmer. He learned to code on his own and eventually created a messaging system called "Twitter."
It was actually a throwback to a project he had already thought of, a new project called Twitter. He did it together with Evan Williams and Biz Stone.
He co-founded Twitter in 2006.
"It quickly became a popular social media platform, and Dorsey was the company's CEO until he was replaced by Dick Costolo in 2010."

Dorsey said he left Twitter to focus full-time on Square.
He explained: "I needed to focus on one thing. I couldn't do two things at once."
He also noted that there were some distractions to Twitter that he needed to avoid: "In Twitter there are all these notifications and people coming to you. "
He was also partially forced to leave Twitter due to a power struggle with Costolo.
He was able to overcome these challenges and continues to be a leader in the business world.
In 2011 he finally started Square: A mobile payment company. He held the position of CEO until he was replaced by Sarah Friar in 2018.
A company that started because a colleague had a problem over a $2,000 payment.
