Kettlebell Lifting Benefits
How lifting kettlebells will enhance your life in more ways than one.
If there's only one piece of fitness equipment I could use to train my entire body, I would only use a kettlebell.
In fact, during the start of the pandemic, that's what I used primarily for my workouts.
I had no expensive equipment, no fancy home gym, and no virtual workouts.
It was just me and my kettlebells.
Here are 10 reasons why you should be using kettlebells too.
- They're convenient to store — You can easily store a handful of kettlebells in your place without them taking up a lot of room. It is better than that treadmill, stationary bike, or workout bench that takes up space more than it gets used for exercise.
- You don't need a lot to get started — I'd recommend starting with about 5 kettlebells with increments of 5 pounds apart. You can get a set spaced apart by 4 kilograms for those with an advanced training background, which is the traditional weight they come in.
- They're easy to carry — With its unique design has a built-in handle at the top of it, making it easy to carry and move around. I'll grab a couple of kettlebells on sunny days, throw them in my car, and take them outside for a quick workout.
- Increases grip strength — Having a strong grip is a good indicator of your health, and just holding a kettlebell by the handle for a few minutes will help increase hand strength making daily tasks and chores easier to do.
- According to an American Council on Exercise study, "The average person can burn up to 400 calories in 20 minutes, 20 calories per minute, or the equivalent of running a six-minute mile." While the exact number of calories will vary from person to person, you can burn many calories in a short amount of time.
- Train multiple muscles simultaneously — Just picking up the kettlebell with two hands using good form hits the same muscles as if you were doing a deadlift — the king of strength exercises. Next, use a "high pull" to catch the kettlebell in front of your chest, then press it overhead — an efficient exercise to train multiple muscles in a short amount of time.
- Easy to use outdoors — One of the favorite things to do is use them outdoors at the beach. Nothing is better than doing a workout outdoors, and kettlebells are perfect. They are extremely durable and can be placed safely on most surfaces due to their flat base.
- They're extremely durable — Most kettlebells are nearly unbreakable, extremely durable cast iron. I've had my first pair of 53 pound / 24 kilogram "Ader" kettlebells for easily a decade, and they nearly look the same as when I first got them.
- Requires minimal maintenance — Kettlebells have no parts to keep them together with their seamless design. I've had my first pair of 53 pound / 24 kilogram "Ader" kettlebells for easily a decade, and they nearly look the same as when I first got them.
- Mimics real-world environment — While most people use gym equipment for aesthetic purposes, kettlebells can help train you for life's physical tasks. Using kettlebells consistently can help enhance the sense of balance and awareness that we face daily.
Final Thoughts
My approach to fitness is to keep things simple, using as little fitness equipment as possible. I've found that kettlebells are perfect for the job. With its simple design lifting, kettlebells have amazing benefits. Not only that, nothing looks cooler than someone swinging a "bell" using proper form. They are one of the most enjoyable forms of workout too.
