Everything we watch and listen to stays with us. Our beliefs shape our reality. What we consume is what we reflect. The problem arises when we project ourselves onto others. We search for validations. Everyone should love what I love and everyone should hate what I hate. We lean toward changing others. Change something we don't control.
You prefer comedy movies because your philosophies revolve around taking things lightly and living on the bright side. But one of your family members prefers disturbing horror movies. Now that genre doesn't fit your style. You would assume they are depressed with life and are torturing themselves, so you would ask them to change and like what you like.
The idea that you can change something arises when you believe that something is wrong and you are right. You assume that you can fix it. Sometimes what looks broken has to be seen from a different angle. The universe doesn't run on manuals we provide.
Talking about current affairs, we are facing constant political instability that raises social issues and tedious crime. We don't initiate any trouble, but we face consequences. This raises a strong determination to take matters into our own hands and be the better people to lead the society and the country.
It's rather easy to form an opinion about how a coworker should perform, a family member should act, and a corporation should operate. This is where we face the illusion of change. Just because you can see it and you believe you know better doesn't mean that you can change it.
You can change the world, and I believe that you can, but you can't control the world. You can fix social issues, run organizations, help the poor, and provide justice, but you can't control how people act. You can bring the best chocolate cake to the table, but it's useless if they want vanilla. Our taste buds don't match, and neither do our lifestyles and preferences.
What's not in your hands must not be on your mind.
You can't force an apple tree to produce peaches. Changing leans towards authorization. You can't change but you can inspire people. Your influence can encourage someone to change. You can be a source of light, but you can't force someone to follow you.
If you think they have to change, then what makes you believe that you are the perfect one? Everyone has flaws, and it's better to let people be comfortable in their own skin. You can't control how they act, but you can control how you react.
You can change the world, but focus on what's in your command. You can feed the hungry, speak for the voiceless, and fight for justice. You can be the hand that lifts another from despair. But you cannot force peace into a heart that clings to war.
People don't change through control. They change through influence. Just because someone is doing something you don't like doesn't mean they need to fix it into something you prefer. Be something you love and accept others as they are.
The world doesn't change through control. It changes through examples. Fight for justice. Help the poor. Not because you can force the outcome, but because the act of trying is exactly how the world gets fixed.
