I started listening to audiobooks through Audible during the pandemic.

Like many of us, 2020 was a challenging time for me.

The world was shutting down all around me, and my mental health slipped into the worst it had ever been.

In this challenging time, audiobooks changed my life.

Audiobooks

During the pandemic, I listened to about 50 audiobooks, which is way more than I would have read if I had been stuck with only physical books.

I could listen to them while driving, doing the dishes, and eating alone.

During the day, I would read something informative such as autobiographies or science books.

At night, I would use audiobooks about Greek or Norse mythology to help me fall asleep.

Finding the Time

Now, as a busy college student, audiobooks have helped me continue reading books throughout the day.

I listen to them as I fall asleep, walk to class, and work in my lab.

They don't take up any space, which makes them more portable than any physical book.

In addition, I especially enjoy listening to the books read by the author. They provide a new learning experience because the author's voice emphasizes things they want to focus on.

If you haven't tried audiobooks yet, I highly recommend them!

Here are some of my favorites:

  1. The Anthropocene Reviewed by John Green
  2. A Promised Land by President Barack Obama
  3. Stillness Is The Key by Ryan Holiday
  4. Ten Restaurants That Changed America by Paul Freedman (this one is great for falling asleep)
  5. Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor E. Frankl
