The idea that you are completely aware of your emotions, you recognize your faults, that you know what you really want.
It's a life long journey. Something that some never achieve, or simply forget to care about. We get into the flow of life, and soberly put our thoughts and actions on autopilot. We no longer take the time to understand our selves, or the world around us. We do what we're told to do, and don't stop to question if it's really what we want. We do things because, well, we've been doing them for years. Or we react to things without taking the time to stop.. and think.
When's the last time you stopped and really thought, if your next sentence were your last, would you say it?
Part of self-awareness is understanding that you can't control someone else's behavior. It's about not compromising who you are or your energy for someone else that is not on the same path as you.
When someone does something that hurts or offends you, usually your first reaction is to retaliate or defend. And nine times out of ten, it always back fires.
There is something to be said about taking space, stopping to pause. Understanding that not every situation or behavior needs a response. Deserves a reaction. That sometimes doing nothing is the best action.
