I spent a long time thinking about what to write to you on such a day. While travelling from state to state, doing our good work for humanity, I asked myself this singular question: "Why do you do what you do?"

None

Why must a group of young individuals be tasked with the responsibility of fixing a nation? Were they the ones that wrecked it in the first place? Were they even around when the wreck began? Were they the ones that brought it to its knees? So why do we wake up, wear our clothes and capes every day like Superman, and step out and tackle scary villains like poverty, hunger, malnutrition, joblessness, and so much more? Why? Would we win? or will the wicked problems in Africa win?

According to UNESCO, of all regions, sub-Saharan Africa has the highest rates of education exclusion. Over one-fifth of children between the ages of about 6 and 11 are out of school, followed by one-third of youth between the ages of about 12 and 14. According to UIS data, almost 60% of youth between the ages of 15 and 17 are out of school; this is a ticking time bomb we must fix.

Years ago, I watched a mind-boggling movie about a hard-working man living in a relatively less developed region; a violent riot broke out, people were killed, and rioters burnt shops, stores and businesses. As the scene progressed, we saw that the military had placed a curfew in that city, and then the camera zoomed in. Lo and behold, this bold man was on his knees praying earnestly, praying for one person, his wife, whom he had not seen for three days since the riot began. The camera pans out and slowly slides away, zooms into a marketplace with people being killed and slaughtered, blood dripping on the ground, and screams and shouts from kids.

Then the most horrible scene was seen: a 6 months pregnant woman caught by rioters, "Oh no, it can't be!" I screamed, then the camera zooms in a bit more, they bring out a knife, and start to gore the belly of the woman, brought the child out of that very woman, as they allowed the woman to die slowly from her bleeding. A woman stands shocked a distance away, watching these scenes play out; all of a sudden, the rioters spot her, all their eyes focus on her and start approaching her with their bloodied knives, vicious eyes and evil intent. As they approached, a moving train suddenly splits the fierce people and the shell-shocked woman, and from nowhere, a man from nowhere grabs the woman watching, shuts her mouth with his hands and drags her out of sight! The light dims, and the scene fades out.

When we decide not to take action, our inaction breeds the challenges we see in our society! So why do we do what we do at Servelead? It is less important than what would happen if we did not do what we did!

So the urgency is in the now! Not tomorrow! The whole world is tending to a riot, and we all act like there is sanity or respect for human life in a riot! Everyone is affected by a riot: the rich, the middle class, and the poor! The urgency is in the now! I pray you don't take it for granted!

The urgency is in the now, when we build solar-powered schools in the north to provide education to underserved communities!

The urgency is in the now, not tomorrow, when we go to communities far away without access to drinking water and drill boreholes!

The urgency is in the now, when we create businesses employing youths across the state and reducing unemployment!

A borehole built and installed in a northern community to provide access to clean water.

Leonardo Da Vinci once said, "I have been impressed with the urgency of doing; knowing is not enough; we must apply. Being willing is not enough; we must do!" So ask yourself these critical questions, for now is that time! Make sure you give a now response!

When will you partner with us to build schools and provide education for those in rural communities?

NOW!!!

When will you partner with Servelead Humanitarian Initiative to give scholarships to orphaned children in Africa?

NOW!

When will you partner with us to provide more boreholes across Nigeria to communities without access to water so that female children can attend school instead of travelling miles to fetch water?

NOW!!

None

If then you are certain that there is an urgency to take action to make sure that our country, nation, and fatherland doesn't degrade into chaos, anarchy, and riots, I ask you to stand boldly on the urgency of the now as a sign of firm commitment to taking action, knowing that the very action you take today will resound in the echoes of time, replay in the movies of time, and leave a mark in the sand of times! For us in this generation, the time for change is now!

So today, we plant the seeds of change right in front of you as opportunities; we ask each person to pick a child and support the work at Servelead Humanitarian Initiative to educate one more child or person and take them off the streets. You can partner with us to build more schools and boreholes and provide scholarships and healthcare to the underserved! Please take a moment to commit to this in the now moment, a now moment that will cause all of us here to start an urgent movement for the very soul of Africa! A now movement!

I have given, sacrificed, and toiled tirelessly for humanity, whether of my time, action, or finances. I sometimes felt sad because the volume of work needed to be done was enormous. Nevertheless, I have held it as the sacred thing to do daily, in my now moment! For what other cause is worth fighting for if not the cause of humanity?

So, back to the movie, how did it end? Do you know? You see, that man on his knees praying was my hero, my friend, and the one who taught me about servant leadership by how he led his life! That man was Mr. Olorunshola Joledo, my father. The location was Kaduna state during one of the riots when I was young, and the woman watching in shock as the other pregnant woman was being gored was my very own mother. This movie wasn't in Hollywood or Nollywood, but my true-life experience at the Kaduna riot in November 2002 as a young lad on the continent.

So then lies one last question: who was the person who snatched my mum from the very riot and saved her from the same tragic fate as the other woman? Some said it was the angel my father prayed for, but I will say this clearly: if he was an angel, one thing she remembered clearly is that this angel was educated, from a different religious background from hers, but spoke English fluently and with so much compassion. He told her, "I was born, educated and grew up in this city; human life once lost, once ended, once terminated, can never be replaced."

So you see, my dear friends, when we build schools in different underserved communities, give scholarships at various orphanages, and execute multiple educational initiatives, we realize we are not just educating people or training future business owners; we realize in the NOW that we are creating angels — angels that will further give birth to other angels, which will rescue our society someday.

So I say to you as I close, "The urgency is in the NOW!" Will you decide now to create the angels we need to save our society, economy, and Africa? Will you take a NOW decision?

Thank you.
